“Yoon’s Impeachment, the Downfall of a Star Prosecutor”… Foreign Media Urgently Reports Constitutional Court’s Decision

The Constitutional Court dismissed President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 4th, an event that was covered as a major story by international media.

'AP News' reported, "President Yoon's term, which ended in confusion following his dismissal, marks the conclusion of a presidency that plunged the nation into chaos just four months after declaring martial law." It explained that the entire court unanimously upheld the National Assembly’s impeachment motion, adding, "This led to the downfall of a star prosecutor who took over the presidency just over a year after entering politics."

'Reuters' published an article titled "Korea's President Yoon Ousted by Court's Impeachment After Martial Law," stating, "This has brought an end to the political turmoil." It also mentioned that President Yoon is currently undergoing a criminal trial over charges of insurrection, noting that "he himself triggered a crisis by declaring a state of emergency."

American news outlet 'CNN' reported, "Korea’s highest court has removed President Yoon from office," and remarked that it "put an end to the weeks of uncertainty and legal disputes following the martial law."

The 'New York Times' accompanied its coverage with an image of celebrating protesters, stating, "The end of the political turmoil that tested the shield of democracy has opened the way for the election of a new leader."

The UK’s 'Guardian' quoted part of the ruling read by Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae: "President Yoon mobilized military and police forces, violating the Constitution and laws."

Following the impeachment ruling, reactions from citizens were also reported. 'AP News' visited the protest site in Seoul, indicating, "Two women hugged and cried upon hearing the decision." It also captured contrasting scenes, stating, "Supporters of President Yoon screamed, shaking South Korean and American flags, declaring 'We will never waver.'"

The UK’s 'BBC' described the protest scene in an article titled "Cheers and Despair Over Presidential Impeachment," noting that reactions were divided along pro and anti-Yoon lines.

Additionally, other media outlets such as China's 'Xinhua News Agency', 'South China Morning Post' (SCMP), Japan's 'NHK', 'Asahi Shimbun', and the Middle East's 'Al Jazeera' also reported significantly on the impeachment news.

Meanwhile, former President Yoon expressed on the same day, "I am sorry for failing to meet expectations" and added, "I will pray for the Republic of Korea and its people."
