Yoon Suk-yeol's Impeachment Trial Intensifies with Pro and Con Rallies at Anguk Station Ahead of Verdict

With just two days remaining until the verdict of President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment trial, supporters for and against impeachment are continuing their 'all-night rally' near Anguk Station in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

The police have created a 'vacuum state' within 100 meters of the Constitutional Court, causing the rally location to shift to the vicinity of Anguk Station.

Pro-Impeachment and Anti-Impeachment Groups Holding Overnight Rallies at Different Anguk Station Exits

Currently, pro-impeachment supporters are gathered at exits 1 and 6 of Anguk Station, while those urging an end to the impeachment are at exit 5.

The Emergency Action for the Immediate Resignation of Yoon Suk-yeol and Social Reform has been holding an all-night rally calling for impeachment since 9 PM the previous day in front of exit 6 of Anguk Station.

As of 8:30 AM, according to unofficial police estimates, about 1,000 pro-impeachment participants have occupied a seven-lane road extending approximately 280 meters in front of exit 1, holding signs that read "The Constitutional Court must issue a dismissal ruling" and "Immediate dismissal of Yoon Suk-yeol," shouting slogans such as "Immediately dismiss Yoon Suk-yeol, who destroys democracy."

In particular, participants who have been enduring the overnight rally were seen wrapped in aluminum blankets, resembling so-called 'kisses,' to withstand the cold, as some lay down on mats using bags as pillows.

Near exit 5 of Anguk Station, supporters urging an end to the impeachment have gathered. Participants are reported to be shouting slogans such as "Dismiss the impeachment," "Fraudulent impeachment," while holding signs that read "Impeachment dismissed" and "Immediate return of the president."

Police Declare 'Emergency Status' on Impeachment Verdict Day… Maintain Emergency Operations Before and After the Announcement

Meanwhile, police plan to declare an emergency status across the nation on the day of the impeachment verdict and maintain an emergency response posture until public safety is stabilized.

In particular, 210 units (approximately 14,000 personnel) of rapid response teams will be concentrated in Seoul to maintain a vacuum state around the Constitutional Court, and advance barriers will be established between pro and anti-impeachment groups to prevent conflicts.

The Seoul city government will also deploy a total of about 2,400 personnel for on-site response in key subway stations and densely populated areas for three days, starting the day before the verdict on the 3rd, to ensure the safety of citizens.

From this day, Anguk Station's entrances have been closed, and on the day of the verdict, trains will pass without stopping. Additionally, in preparation for a potential surge in patients, on-site clinics will be set up at Anguk, Cheonggye Plaza, Hannam-dong, and Yeoui-daero, with medical teams and ambulances deployed.

Authorities are making preparations to minimize the political repercussions and social disorder expected from the Constitutional Court's decision.
