Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Visits Hospital Daily to Care for His Hospitalized Wife, Kim Geon-hee
Former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who has an arrest warrant requested by the special prosecution for charges of inciting a rebellion, has been confirmed to be visiting Seoul Asan Medical Center almost daily to care for his ailing wife, Kim Geon-hee.
Despite having failed to respond to police summons three times, he is reportedly continuing his hospital visits to care for his spouse.
Seo Jeong-wook, a lawyer known to be a close aide to the former presidential couple, revealed during an interview on YTN Radio on the afternoon of the 24th, "I heard unfortunate news a few days ago that Mrs. Kim's condition has worsened." He continued, "I am aware that former President Yoon goes to the hospital almost every day to care for her."
Prognosis on the Prolonged Hospitalization of Kim Geon-hee and the Special Prosecution Investigation
Initially, it was expected that Mrs. Kim would stay in the hospital for about a week since her admission on the 16th; however, the hospitalization period is extending beyond expectations.
Regarding the possibility that she might also refuse the special prosecution investigation like she did for the prosecutor's summons, Lawyer Seo stated, "Whether the police or the prosecution hand the case over to the special prosecution, they will continue to summon her before handing it over, and there are reasons for her worsened condition."
He emphasized, "If the special prosecution summons her, she will obviously comply."
Regarding the possibility of a face-to-face investigation concerning Mrs. Kim mentioned by the Minjunggi ‘Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecution,’ he predicted, "The special prosecution will probably not go to the hospital."
He explained, "They will likely investigate witnesses first and only call President Yoon or Kim Geon-hee at the end of the investigation. Since Mrs. Kim will not be in the hospital for months, it is natural that she will not be investigated at the hospital and will appear in person."
Lawyer Seo’s Views on the Cancellation of Kim Geon-hee’s Degree
Meanwhile, Lawyer Seo expressed his viewpoint that the decision of Sookmyung Women’s University to revoke Mrs. Kim's master's degree, followed by the consideration of the National University of Korea to cancel her doctoral degree, is "too harsh."
He stated, “It would have been a courageous decision to revoke the degree while in office; it is unfortunate that it is happening after stepping down.”
Seo criticized this decision as being “harsh on dead power while being too accommodating toward living power.”
