“Yoon Imprisoned in Detention Center as ‘Broke’… OOO Million Won Collected in Deposit Just One Day After Account Disclosure”

"Imprisoned with No Money… Can't Buy Anything" Lawyer Kim Gye-ri Explains

A day after the disclosure of former President Yoon Seok-youl's detention center account balance, it has been confirmed that the maximum deposit limit of 4 million KRW has been reached.

According to News1's coverage on the 12th, the current balance in former President Yoon's account, while incarcerated in the Seoul Detention Center, is 4 million KRW. This is just one day after lawyer Kim Gye-ri posted the information regarding Yoon's account on social media.

According to the current Ministry of Justice's 'Guidelines for the Management of Personal Funds', there is no limit on the amount of funds that can be deposited for detainees. However, the actual amount that can be used is capped at 4 million KRW. Any excess amounts are kept in a separate account under the detainee's name and will be disbursed in full upon release.

Former President Yoon can spend up to 20,000 KRW per day to purchase food and other items from the detention center's convenience store. However, purchases of items such as medications, clothing, and bedding are subject to separate criteria and are not covered by the account funds.

Lawyer Kim Gye-ri stated on her social media, "The situation of my client being imprisoned twice is emotionally shocking for me as a lawyer," adding, "Politics is rising above the rule of law, and that politics is trespassing into the realm of justice. The law and principles are being undermined."

She continued, "The President is effectively imprisoned without any money as he wouldn't carry cash on him, and due to the delays in assigning an official inmate number, it was impossible to deposit any funds."

Meanwhile, the special counsel team led by Cho Eun-seok, which is investigating the coup and foreign exchange allegations related to the '12.3 Emergency Martial Law', has reissued a notice for former President Yoon to appear on the 14th at 2 PM. This action follows his failure to respond to the first summons after his arrest.

Special Counsel Park Ji-young stated in a briefing the day before, "We requested through the defense counsel for former President Yoon to appear at 2 PM on the 14th." Furthermore, she mentioned, "According to the response received from the correctional authorities, no health issues have been objectively confirmed during the initial health screening at admission or throughout the incarceration process."
