Actor Yoo Yeon-seok and Chae Soo-bin embark on a precarious show-window marriage. On the 17th, MBC-TV released new stills from the upcoming Friday-Saturday drama 'The Phone You Are Calling' (written by Kim Ji-woon, directed by Park Sang-woo and Wi Deuk-gyu), featuring their first duo shots, hinting at their visual chemistry and relationship.
Directed by Park Sang-woo and Wi Deuk-gyu, the stills capture various moments of the 'show-window couple.' Instead of the excitement usually felt before marriage, a peculiar tension is more palpable between Baek Sa-eon (played by Yoo Yeon-seok) and Hong Hee-joo (played by Chae Soo-bin).
The atmosphere is bittersweet. Sa-eon and Hee-joo are seen in tuxedo and dress respectively, exchanging meaningful glances. They are also captured relying on each other while fixing their gaze on something.
In reality, Sa-eon is a character known for meticulous self-management and maintaining a clean image. Hee-joo only plays the minimal role required for appearances and has no expectations or intentions for her married life. They are a couple who live without communication.
Particularly, both characters are in professions involving communication with others: Sa-eon as a presidential spokesperson and Hee-joo as a sign language interpreter. However, they fail to communicate with each other, showcasing not only discord but also intense romance.
The script is written by Kim Ji-woon, known for 'Melancholia' and 'Doctor John.' Directed by Park Sang-woo, who has demonstrated his stylish direction in works like 'The Forbidden Marriage,' the series is a secret romantic thriller about a show-window couple in their third year of an arranged marriage, which began with a threatening phone call. It is based on a web novel of the same name on KakaoPage written by Geon-eomul-nyeo.
Yoo Yeon-seok plays 'Baek Sa-eon,' the youngest presidential spokesperson, a character lacking in nothing: family, appearance, and ability. Chae Soo-bin passionately takes on the role of Baek Sa-eon's wife, 'Hong Hee-joo,' a sign language interpreter suffering from selective mutism.
'The Phone You Are Calling' will premiere next month.
