Members of Yeosu City Council Engage in Profanity and Physical Altercation at Restaurant
Two members of the Yeosu City Council in Jeollanam-do caused controversy after engaging in a verbal argument and physical altercation during a dinner at a local restaurant.
According to reports from the Yeosu City Council on the 24th, two council members got into a heated dispute while dining with city hall staff at a restaurant in Yeosu the previous evening. The argument escalated into name-calling and eventually physical conflict, including pulling each other's hair.
In response to the incident, Baek In-sook, the chairperson of the Yeosu City Council, issued an apology stating, "This incident has significantly shaken the trust of citizens in the city council, and it is truly embarrassing for those who have been watching over the council." She also promised to conduct a thorough review and correct the issues to prevent a recurrence.

The two council members involved in the altercation also released a joint apology. They expressed, "We sincerely apologize for causing anxiety to the citizens due to our inappropriate behavior," acknowledging their responsibility for their actions. They added, "As representatives of the citizens, we regret that we could not control our emotions and acted recklessly."
The officials admitted that the incident has "undermined the honor of the entire Yeosu City Council beyond individual mistakes and betrayed public trust." They committed to "dedicate themselves to their legislative activities and do their utmost to restore the trust that has been damaged."
