Chinese master director Wong Kar-wai is coming with his first TV drama.
Director Wong is set to air his TV drama "Blossoms Shanghai" in South Korea on the 7th. He greeted domestic viewers through a teaser video.
He said, "I am glad to introduce my drama 'Blossoms' to (Korea), and it will guide you to Shanghai in the 1990s." He added, "Shanghai was searching for a new identity at that time," stating, "This work looks back on the past while telling a story toward the future."
It’s a story that resonates universally across generations, genders, and races. Although it’s set in 1990s Shanghai, it embodies humanity's universal desires.
Director Wong noted, "'Blossoms' is centered around desire," and he expressed his hope that the drama will provide viewers with insights and empathy regarding life.
"Blossoms" is based on the eponymous novel (2012) by novelist Jin Yucheng. It garnered significant attention, ranking first in popularity when it simultaneously aired on China's CCTV-8 and Tencent in 2023.
The drama depicts the journey of a poor youth growing into a millionaire, exploring themes of love and ambition through his relationships with three women. The psychological portrayal of these characters is a highlight.
Meanwhile, "Blossoms" will be broadcast consecutively at 10 PM on SBS FIL UHD tonight.
