Current Police Officer Arrested While Wielding a Weapon in Downtown
A shocking incident occurred where a current police officer was apprehended by the police while wandering in the heart of a city during broad daylight, carrying a weapon.
On the 11th, the Namwon Police Station in Jeollabuk-do stated that they arrested a woman in her 20s, referred to as A, on suspicions of carrying a weapon in a public place. A is accused of wandering around the center of Namwon City with a weapon at around 2 PM on the 3rd.

According to MBC's 'News Desk' report, A was confirmed to have entered a restaurant holding a knife approximately 30 centimeters long and asked if she could place an order. The restaurant staff reported, "I took a step back as she was holding a knife," conveying the danger of the situation. After the restaurant owner expressed surprise, A reportedly showed her police ID from her pocket and exited the establishment.
Video footage from the restaurant’s CCTV captured A wielding the knife in both hands after leaving the restaurant. Fortunately, it was confirmed that she did not directly threaten any passersby with the weapon.
Following a report stating, "A woman has stabbed a knife into a street tree," the police dispatched and took A into voluntary custody for questioning.

Investigations revealed that A is a serving police officer currently on the force at the Jeonju Wansan Police Station. An officer from the nearby district stated, "We received a report that a woman was walking around with a knife."
It was determined that A was on sick leave at the time of the incident and had been on vacation since the 1st.
The police have booked A on suspicions of weapon-related crimes but stated that she was first handed over to her family for hospital treatment. Currently, A is receiving treatment in the hospital.
The police have summoned officials from A's police station to investigate not only the motive behind the crime but also her personal circumstances, as well as any workplace issues. In addition, they plan to further investigate A's exact motives and the specific circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, the police have introduced a system where candidates are required to submit documentation of any mental health treatment over the past three years during the hiring process, effective since 2014. Those who do not comply are subjected to in-depth interviews to filter out unsuitable candidates.
