A couple in their 60s falls from the breakwater in Gangwon Province, safely rescued by coast guard and fire authorities
A couple in their 60s who fell from the northern breakwater near Oeongchi Port in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, was safely rescued in about 40 minutes due to the swift response of the coast guard and fire authorities.
According to the Sokcho Coast Guard on the 11th, at around 6:10 PM the previous day, a citizen reported, "A person has fallen from the northern breakwater near Oeongchi Port."

Upon receiving the report, the coast guard immediately dispatched a rescue team and inshore rescue boats to the scene.
The coast guard successfully rescued the couple, identified as Mr. and Mrs. A, one by one, at around 6:50 PM which was approximately 40 minutes after the report was received. Subsequently, the fire authorities transported the couple to a nearby hospital, where it was confirmed that both individuals were not seriously injured.
Cause of the accident and safety reminders
According to the coast guard's initial investigation, it was determined that the accident occurred when the wife fell first, and the husband fell while attempting to rescue her.

The coast guard is currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
A Sokcho coast guard official emphasized, "Access to the breakwater should be restricted during inclement weather," highlighting the importance of safety precautions. Specifically, they urged, "In the event of an accident, rather than attempting a rescue on your own, please report it and wait in a safe location."
