“Why the World Needs Sci-Fi”… Director Park Chan-wook Praises ‘Mickey 17’

Director Park Chan-wook praised the movie 'Mickey 17' (directed by Bong Joon-ho).

The distributor, Warner Bros. Korea, posted reviews of 'Mickey 17' on their official SNS on the 24th. Prominent directors from the Korean film industry left their comments.

First, Director Park Chan-wook focused on the genre's characteristics. He recommended, "If you want to know why the science fiction (SF) genre is needed in the world, watch 'Mickey 17'."

He praised the dual role performance of Hollywood actor Robert Pattinson. "The Academy should give Robert Pattinson both the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards," he wrote.

Director Jang Jae-hyun commented, "Cute, cruel, beautiful, and funny." Director Choi Dong-hoon added, "A film that makes people happy. It's comforting."

There was also admiration for Director Bong Joon-ho. Director Nam Dong-hyeop said, "Makes you want to become Bong Joon-ho 17. Respect," he wrote.

Director Hong Ui-jung also shared, "Such an enchanting experience. Thank you." Director Yoon Ga-eun marveled, "The joy of watching a movie (without dying)," expressing her amazement.

Director Im Pil-seong wrote, "Mickey is the 17th, Bong Joon-ho is the only one." Director Yoo Jae-sun suggested, "The best movie of the year. Watch it 2, 3, 4 times."

'Mickey 17' is Director Bong Joon-ho's follow-up film after 'Parasite' (2019), released after five years. It is an adaptation of American author Edward Ashton’s novel 'Mickey 7'.

The film involves human printing technology. It tells the story of Mickey (portrayed by Robert Pattinson) facing his 17th death crisis, during which Mickey 18 is printed.

Robert Pattinson plays the protagonist Mickey, while Naomi Ackie takes on the role of Mickey's girlfriend, Nasha. Mark Ruffalo plays his first villain role.

Meanwhile, 'Mickey 17' is set to be released domestically on the 28th.
