On the 3rd, the Chuncheon District Court Wonju Branch Criminal Division 2 (Chief Judge Park Hyun-jin) sentenced the man, identified as A, to a fine of 7 million won for charges including injury, special threats, special destruction of property, destruction of property, and assault.

A is accused of causing bodily harm requiring about two weeks of treatment to his pregnant wife, identified as B (31), on August 12, 2023, around 8 PM at an apartment in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do.

According to the indictment, A was charged with shaking and pushing B during an argument, citing that there were many demands, causing her to collide with a desk and sustain injuries requiring two weeks of treatment.

The violence didn’t end there. On September 3 of the previous year, in an apartment in Wonju, Gangwon-do, he is also accused of grabbing B's hair, hitting her face, and pushing her during an argument, while threatening to "kill" her by tearing the wallpaper with a weapon out of anger.

On December 2 of the same year, in an apartment in Wonju, he assaulted B by choking her neck and twisting her arms during another argument.

Additionally, he is charged with throwing B's mobile phone on the ground to damage it and stabbing the bedroom door with a weapon, causing property damage.

Chief Judge Park Hyun-jin pointed out, "The defendant has committed violence against the victim, who is his spouse, on three occasions. The fact that these crimes were committed while the victim was pregnant aggravates their severity."

However, he stated, "Taking into account the fact that the defendant acknowledged most of the crimes, excluding some acts, as well as being a first-time offender, the sentence was determined accordingly."

Meanwhile, the prosecution has filed an appeal against the verdict.
