A youth noir comic 'Beat' is being remade into a drama. Alt Studio announced on the 11th, "We will adapt the legendary work 'Beat' by author Heo Young-man as our first project. It is planned to be produced as a 10-episode series."
'Beat' was serialized in Young Champ from 1994 to 1995. It has been evaluated as a Korean-style noir, capturing the anger, wandering, frustration, and growing pains of youth at that time. During its serialization, it recorded over 1 million copies in cumulative sales. The comic's props, such as the Honda CBR600F, Zippo lighters, and Marlboro Reds, created a sensation.
In 1997, it was also made into a movie of the same name, starring Jung Woo-sung and Ko So-young, directed by Kim Sung-soo. It surpassed 870,000 viewers at that time. Jung Woo-sung emerged as a youth icon of the '90s, giving birth to numerous famous lines, including "I never had a dream" and "17 to 1 fight." Who will become the new generation's 'Min'?
Alt Studio stated, "We will modernly reinterpret the emotions of youth from that era. It is expected to evoke nostalgia for the older generation and provide new empathy for those in their teens and twenties."
Meanwhile, 'Beat' is set to actively begin planning and production, aiming for a release in the first half of next year.
