Social Worker Rescues Suicide Attempt Victim at Mapo Bridge
A social worker responsible for supporting high-risk individuals has demonstrated courageous behavior by rescuing a woman attempting to jump from the Mapo Bridge in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
According to Hanyang University Hospital on the 29th, Jung Seon-ah, a 30-year-old social worker at the hospital's Life Love Crisis Response Center, witnessed a peculiar situation while passing near the Mapo Bridge with a friend in the early hours of the 12th.

Two women, estimated to be in their twenties, were standing close to the bridge railing while looking out at the Han River. As they suddenly started to climb over the railing, Jung and her friend immediately sprang into action.
They rushed over without hesitation and pulled the women away from the railing.
Afterward, Jung and her friend asked passersby to notify the authorities, and for about 10 minutes, they physically blocked the two women from moving toward the roadway until the rescue team arrived.

"Professional experience led to instinctive response"
Jung reflected on the critical situation, saying, "My professional experience dealing with suicide attempt victims instinctively triggered my response."
She explained, "Seeing the two individuals looking out over the railing at that hour made me instinctively think it could be a suicide attempt. The moment I saw them step up onto the railing, my body reacted before I could think, and I had to run toward them."

The Life Love Crisis Response Center at Hanyang University Hospital is a specialized organization that provides comprehensive support, including psychological therapy and social services, for individuals classified as high-risk for suicide.
Since its establishment in 2017, the center has reportedly conducted post-management for over 500 suicide attempt victims each year.
Jung expressed, "I have realized once again that what I do plays an important role in saving lives, and I want to help ensure that someone else's life can lead to hope in the future."
Her courageous actions have moved many by exemplifying a beautiful blend of professionalism and humanity.
