Women who extorted 200 million won from YouTuber Jjuyang receive probation sentence

Two women charged with extorting a large sum of money from popular YouTuber Jjuyang (real name Park Jung-won) through threats were sentenced to probation in the first trial.

On the 20th, the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Division 12, presided over by Judge Koo Chang-kyu, handed down suspended prison sentences to 30-year-old Song and 20-something Kim for their joint threats under the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts.

The court sentenced Song to two years in prison, suspended for four years, and Kim to one year and six months in prison, suspended for four years.

Judge Koo noted, "The duration of the crime is long, and the amount extorted is considerable, indicating the serious nature of the crime." However, he explained that they considered the fact that "the defendants acknowledged their responsibility and expressed their intent to apologize through a representative from the investigation stage, they compensated the victim for an amount exceeding the extorted sum, and the victim does not wish for punishment."

Extortion of a large sum through continuous threats to expose past history at entertainment establishments

The two women are accused of extorting 216 million won from Jjuyang from June 2021 to November 2022 by threatening to reveal the YouTuber's past experience at entertainment establishments. Notably, Song is additionally facing charges for attempting to demand an extra 15 million won in 2023, under the condition that she would not expose Jjuyang's private life, but this attempt was unsuccessful.

Jjuyang clarified his position regarding this incident on his YouTube channel in July of last year.

He explained, "Three years ago, the representative of my former agency and my ex-boyfriend brought up the stories of these two women, saying 'they are blackmailing me.'" He continued, "They said to silence me with my own money, and reluctantly, the PD went out to meet the two of them, and over two years, I ended up giving them 216 million won."
