Collision Accident Involving Electric Scooters Occurs at Gwangju Cheondan Bridge
A collision accident between electric scooters occurred at Gwangju Cheondan Bridge, resulting in injuries to three teenagers.
According to the Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station on the 28th, the accident took place around 4:48 PM on the 27th in Sanwol-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, where two electric scooters collided with each other.
As a result of the accident, three teenage youths, including A (18), were injured. The accident happened when two electric scooters, coming towards each other, failed to avoid collision and crashed head-on; it was confirmed that one of the scooters was carrying two passengers.

Upon receiving the accident report, the firefighting authorities immediately provided first aid to the injured and transported them to a nearby hospital.
No Serious Injuries Thanks to Quick Emergency Response
According to fire officials, fortunately, the extent of the injuries sustained by the teenagers was not deemed serious.
Meanwhile, according to the Road Traffic Authority, the nationwide accident statistics for personal mobility devices, including electric scooters, are as follows: 447 cases in 2019, 897 cases in 2020, 1,735 cases in 2021, 2,386 cases in 2022, and 2,389 cases in 2023, indicating an annual increase.
In a public perception survey conducted by the Seoul city last year regarding personal mobility devices, it was found that 95% of the 1,000 respondents felt the risks associated with electric scooters, and 79% experienced inconvenience due to others using electric scooters.

In particular, with an increasing number of accidents involving teenagers riding electric scooters leading to injuries or fatalities, there are growing calls for urgent safety measures to be established.
