Tragic Incident Where Two 70-Year-Old Sea Women Died Together at Sea in Busan
A tragic incident occurred in the waters off Busan's Gijang County, where two 70-year-old sea women, who went out to collect seafood, died together.
According to the Ulsan Coast Guard on the 23rd, at around 10:10 a.m., two sea women in their 70s were found in cardiac arrest in the waters near the walking path on the east side of Ilgwang Beach in Ilgwang-eup, Gijang County.
They were discovered by personnel from nearby recreational businesses and received urgent measures such as CPR before being transported to the hospital, but ultimately, they both died.

At the time of their rescue, both sea women were wearing diving suits, and no specific external injuries were found.
Nearby, fishing gear presumed to have been used by them was also discovered, raising the possibility that the accident occurred during their seafood collection activities.
Concerns Raised About the Safety of Elderly Sea Women
The deceased sea women were local residents and cousins, and it was investigated that they went out to collect seafood with another sea woman in her 70s, who is a member of the local sea women's association, around 7 a.m. that day.
The other sea woman who had gone into the water with them reportedly resurfaced around 11 a.m., unaware of the tragedy that had befallen the two.

The Ulsan Coast Guard is currently conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, keeping various possibilities open.
A Coast Guard official emphasized, "Many elderly sea women, despite their age, often neglect their well-being and face accidents while working. It is most important to refrain from overexerting themselves while working."
