Trump Eyeing the Papacy? AI-Generated Images Elicit Reactions from Supporters
As the conclave to elect the next pope approaches, former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again captured attention with his bold actions. This time, he even shared an AI-generated composite image of himself dressed as the pope.
On February 2 (local time), President Trump posted a photo of himself wearing the pope's white robe and golden cross necklace on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The image, featuring a tightly closed mouth and an impressive right index finger pointing to the sky, is being analyzed for its political message beyond simple humor.
In fact, Trump had already joked (or not) about wanting to be pope during a press Q&A on January 21, after the passing of Pope Francis.

Trump vs. Pope Francis: An Old Conflict Revisited
While Trump did not mention any specific cardinal, his comment about there being "a very good cardinal in New York" was interpreted as an indirect reference to the conservative Timothy Dolan.
Trump and Pope Francis have clashed on several international issues in the past. Notably, during the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump’s proposal for a “border wall with Mexico” drew Francis’s criticism, as he stated, “One who only wants to build walls is not a Christian.”
In response, Trump retorted, “A religious leader who doubts a person's faith is disgraceful.”
Foreign media reported that ahead of the upcoming conclave, Trump and his supporters hope for a conservative candidate who prioritizes doctrine to be elected as the next pope. There is also an emerging sense that there is political intent hidden behind Trump’s brand of humor.
Meanwhile, the conclave to elect the next pope is set to begin on February 7.
