A was brought to trial for attempting to murder her 11-year-old grandson B on two occasions at an apartment in Daegu's Dalsu District on September 3 of last year.

Since 2016, A had been living in the same apartment complex as her son while helping to raise her grandson.

B often exhibited self-harming behavior or violent actions in front of his parents due to symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

When her son complained about the stress of parenting, A ultimately made an extreme decision.

After attempting to kill her grandson, A resolved to take her own life as well.

She even wrote a suicide note stating, "B will come with me. He may blame me, but there is no solution. I love you, son."

On the day of the crime, A tried to kill B twice, but he resisted and escaped, resulting in an attempt.

The court pointed out, "This is a crime against humanity, as the defendant sought to take the life of her only 11-year-old grandson, which is highly condemnable, and the defendant has not been forgiven by the victim."

However, the court also noted, "It appears that the defendant developed depression after witnessing her family suffer because of her grandson, which may have partially influenced her crime, and the victim's injuries were not severe, along with the fact that the defendant's son and daughter-in-law are pleading for leniency," and rendered its ruling.
