“Tired of Losing! Please”… Song Kang-ho, the Impossible ‘One Win’

“Tired of losing. Let’s just win one game!” The movie ‘Victory’ (directed by Shin Yeon-shik) released its second teaser and third poster on the 12th. It hinted at the heart-wrenching story of a volleyball team that has never won and the relationships between the characters.

Tears welled up from the start. ‘Pink Storm’ coach Kim Woo-jin (played by Song Kang-ho) opened the scene. “While others easily rack up 10 or 20 wins, why is it so hard for me to win just once?” he lamented, clutching his head. The appearance of team owner Kang Jung-won (played by Park Jung-min) also catches the eye. He buys the Pink Storm volleyball team, which is on the brink of disbandment, because it’s cheap.

He sets a condition for Kim Woo-jin, saying, “You just need to win once.” However, achieving a single win for Pink Storm is no easy feat. Even with the owner’s bold promise of a 2 billion won prize for a single victory, the veteran captain, Bang Soo-ji (played by Jang Yoon-ju), can’t even interpret the coach’s signals.

The players bicker regardless of whether they are on the same or opposing teams. However, the earnest desire of Kim Woo-jin and the players to win at least once begins to grow.

The thrilling rally matches were vividly depicted. The poster hints at the chemistry between Kim Woo-jin and Kang Jung-won: a coach who knows all the theories but hasn’t tasted victory, and an owner who knows nothing about volleyball but is a genius when it comes to making money.

It captures their diverging perspectives. The players’ expressions provoke laughter, as they seem utterly uninterested in the game. This contrasts with the eye-catching tagline, “Let’s just win once.”

‘Victory’ is a volleyball movie. It’s the story of a coach who has never won, an owner who doesn’t intend to win, and players who don’t know how to win. It’s about a professional women’s volleyball team with zero chances of victory and their quest for one win. The movie premieres on the 4th of next month.
