Namyangju Apartment Parking Lot Retaining Wall Collapse, Six Vehicles Damaged

A retaining wall in an apartment parking lot that is 30 years old collapsed, causing six vehicles to fall.

According to police and Namyangju, the incident occurred on the 22nd at around 1:10 PM at an apartment's outdoor parking lot in Hwado-eup, Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province when the retaining wall gave way.

As a result of the incident, six parked vehicles fell and were damaged. Fortunately, there were no pedestrians or passengers in vehicles nearby at the time of the accident, so no injuries were reported.

Photos from the scene showed a van overturned with its rear door open and the back lifted in a bizarre manner. Among the fallen vehicles was an expensive Maybach, indicating that the property damage could be significant.

The apartment where the accident occurred was built in 1991, making it an aging structure that has been standing for 30 years.

Currently, Namyangju city and the apartment management are installing barricades around the accident site and are in the process of restoration work.

The fire authorities reported that the collapse occurred after recent heavy rains weakened the ground, causing soil to flow out along the drainage pipes, and they are investigating the exact cause of the incident.
