The Dedication of Civil Servants Shining Through Heavy Rain

As heavy rain continues to cause damage across the country, a video of a civil servant working on-site is warming the hearts of the citizens.

The protagonist is Kim Seon-tae, a civil servant from Chungju, also known as 'Chungju Man.'

The video titled 'Heavy Rain, Is This Really Okay?' released by Chungju Man on the 29th of last month is gaining renewed attention amidst the extreme downpour that recently struck the southern region.

Hidden Efforts of Civil Servants on Rainy Days

"It's currently pouring rain. It’s raining so heavily that a heavy rain warning has been issued. The drains are completely blocked, so I will head out for an emergency response," said Chungju Man as he boarded a drainage cleaning vehicle.

This was the situation when more than 180mm of rain fell in the Chungju area on the 17th of last month.

The destination was a road next to a rice field, where rainwater had risen nearly to the knees of an adult male due to flooding.

In a critical situation where the entire road could be submerged, the cause of the flooding was unexpected.

Trash had overflowed from the drainage system.

Next to the drainage system where the on-site workers were operating, there was a shocking sight of a mountain of trash, including plastic bottles, that had been pulled out from inside.

Chungju Man expressed his frustration, saying, "Look at what has come out of the drain. This is why the water isn’t draining. How did this get in there? Surely it wasn’t put in there intentionally?"

A civil servant from the local administrative welfare center met on-site managed to maintain a smile despite the rain.

He stated calmly, "I was up all night yesterday. We have to move on to another location once this is done," which made a strong impression.

To assist even a little, Chungju Man began directing traffic and, after about two hours of work, the water that had risen to the knees was completely drained.

He urged, "Our local government civil servants are working hard for the citizens. Many have stayed up all night yesterday. I hope the citizens recognize how diligently we are working."

Netizens who viewed the video reacted in various ways: "It seems like Chungju Man’s positive role. Who would acknowledge the hard work of civil servants?" "Please throw trash in the trash bins," "Civil servants really work hard all the time. Thank you always," "What I feel when watching Chungju Man is, 'Do civil servants do this too?' They really work in a wide variety of ways," and "I hope they stay safe while working."

The dedication of civil servants, which is usually unseen, is becoming known through this video, and it seems that the public's perception is slowly changing.
