The ‘Squid Game’ syndrome continues. Netflix’s ‘Squid Game Season 2’ (director Hwang Dong-hyuk) has maintained its number 1 status for three consecutive weeks. According to Netflix’s official tally (from the 6th to the 12th), ‘Squid Game Season 2’ (hereinafter referred to as ‘Squid Game 2’) ranked first in the global top 10 series overall (English and Non-English).
Even in its third week of release, it dominated all categories. During this period, it recorded 26.3 million views (the viewing time divided by the runtime of the work). It made it onto the top 10 list in a total of 93 countries and topped the rankings in 70 of them, including Canada, Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Japan.
The cumulative number of views for ‘Squid Game 2’ reaches 152.5 million. It is breaking records daily. In just three weeks, it became Netflix’s third most-watched work in history. It has become a mega-hit, which is unusual for a sequel. It has set the record for the most views among Netflix’s follow-up series. It is praised for achieving both artistic quality and popularity.
Meanwhile, ‘Squid Game 2’ depicted the fierce battle between Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) and the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun) as they re-enter the game. Season 3 is scheduled to be released this year.
