'Abandoned Puppies Found Inside a Clothing Donation Bin'

Puppies less than a week old were discovered inside a 'clothing donation bin' in an apartment complex, causing outrage among netizens.

On the 15th, JTBC's ‘Incident Room’ reported that a viewer, referred to as A, alerted them around 3 AM about puppies found abandoned in a clothing collection box within an apartment complex in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.

A stated, "While walking my pet dog in the apartment complex, I heard faint animal cries," describing the situation at the time.

The source of the cries was none other than inside the clothing donation bin. Inside a black plastic bag within the bin, three puppies were found abandoned, and one was already deceased.

After receiving A's report, police arrived on the scene and are currently identifying the individual who abandoned the puppies by reviewing CCTV footage from the donation bin.

The puppies are currently being temporarily cared for by A, but if a suitable adoptive home does not emerge, they are set to be handed over to an animal shelter.

A expressed concern, stating, "(After being handed over to the shelter) I've heard they could be euthanized if not adopted within two weeks," adding, "I'm worried that the puppies, who cried out to live, might face such a fate."

Reacting to this, netizens commented, "May the person who abandoned them face divine punishment," "An act only possible by a devil," "I worry that the mother dog may have been abused as well. It's truly concerning," and "I hope they find good owners."

Meanwhile, animal abandonment is strictly prohibited under the Animal Protection Act, with a fine of up to 3 million won imposed. Previously, there were no criminal records associated with fines, but due to amendments to the Animal Protection Act in 2021, penalties now result in a criminal record.
