“The Return of Justice, a Signal for National Normalization”… The Ruling Party’s Reaction to Kim Kun-hee’s Arrest

Reactions to Kim Geon-hee's Arrest Differ Between Political Parties

The Democratic Party of Korea stated yesterday (12th) at midnight that the arrest of Kim Geon-hee is "a logical consequence and a signal marking the normalization of the state." Spokesperson Park Soo-hyun expressed through a statement that they welcome the court's rational decision together with the people.

"We welcome the court's rational decision together with the people."

Spokesperson Park emphasized, "Kim Geon-hee is not 'a nobody,' but rather a key figure at the center of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's state corruption. If she thought she could evade the rule of law just because she was the former president's wife, that is a grave miscalculation." He also urged the special prosecutor to "thoroughly investigate and swiftly indict, revealing the truth behind the allegations related to Kim Geon-hee to the public."

The Justice and Innovation Party also expressed their stance on the arrest of Kim Geon-hee.

Spokesperson Yoon Jae-kwan stated in a commentary that "the arrest of the evil money fountain Kim Geon-hee is a case of karmic retribution and self-inflicted wounds," and described it as "a historic moment that reinstates a strong pillar of democracy in the Republic of Korea."

Ruling Party Strongly Responds, Calling It a 'Tyranny'

Spokesperson Yoon further emphasized that "not only the prosecution and political power that took the lead in turning an ordinary pickpocket named Kim Geon-hee into a thief mocking the entire Republic of Korea, but also all the collaborators who have been parasitic and profiting from this should be held accountable in the courts of history and reality."

In contrast, the People Power Party strongly opposed this. Candidate Kim Moon-soo criticized the issuance of an arrest warrant for Kim Geon-hee as "an unprecedented tyranny in constitutional history." In a statement right after Kim Geon-hee's arrest at midnight, he remarked, "The three special investigations led by Lee Jae-myung have committed the atrocity of arresting the former presidential couple simultaneously."

"An unprecedented tyranny in constitutional history."

Candidate Kim pointed out, "How long can the power's dance of the sword continue? Soon, the people's anger will flare up like a wildfire, swallowing this tyranny," expressing strong regret.

As reactions to Kim Geon-hee's arrest are starkly divided between the ruling and opposition parties, attention is focused on the impact this will have on the political landscape moving forward.
