Mid-40s man who installed a recording device in neighbor's home due to sexual curiosity receives probationary sentence

A man in his 40s, whose curiosity was sparked by hearing sexual activity coming from a neighbor's bedroom, was caught illegally entering the victim's home to install a recording device and was sentenced to probation by the court.

On the 10th, the Chuncheon District Court Wonju Branch's 1st Criminal Division (Chief Judge Lee Seung-ho) announced that it sentenced A, a man in his 40s, to 6 months in prison and 1 year of disqualification, with 2 years of probation for violating the Communications Privacy Protection Act and trespassing.

According to the court, A heard sexual sounds coming from B's house through B's front door while in the hallway of his residence last November. To satisfy his sexual curiosity, he installed a mini camera near B's house around 5 PM on February 13, learned the electronic door lock password, and unlawfully entered the home.

A's crimes did not stop there. On February 16, three days later, around 9:30 PM, he broke into B's house again and even installed a recording device between the mattress slats. However, A's crime was discovered by B, who returned home earlier than usual, and A was tried while in custody.

The court pointed out that "the defendant's act of entering someone else's residence to satisfy simple sexual curiosity and invading the private sphere of life is by no means a trivial matter in terms of the target, method, and circumstances."
