The Songdo homemade gun murder case: The suspension of financial support revealed as the motive for the crime
A man in his 60s, who shot and killed his son with a homemade gun during a birthday celebration in Songdo, Incheon, has finally disclosed the motive behind his crime.
Previously mentioning only "family conflict," he revealed that he committed the act out of resentment over the suspension of his son's financial support.

According to SBS on the 24th, Mr. A, the man in his 60s who killed his son in his 30s with a homemade gun, stated to two profilers deployed on the 22nd that "my son had been supporting my living expenses, but the support was cut off last year."
"I had been receiving living expenses from my son, but the support was cut off last year."
He expressed dissatisfaction over his son not providing adequate financial support despite running a large business, indicating that this was part of his motive.
The police have also confirmed that Mr. A purchased a metal pipe necessary for making firearms around the time he claims financial support was halted last year.
Circumstances of the crime and rebuttal from the victim's family
Until now, Mr. A had only stated to police that there had been "family conflict" and had remained silent on the specific motives behind his crime.

This led some to speculate that Mr. A might have committed the crime due to some form of inferiority complex after divorcing his wife decades ago.
However, the victim's family strongly refuted this claim in a statement, asserting that "family conflict" could not be the motive for the crime.
The victim, the son, reportedly learned of his parents' divorce eight years ago but did not show any signs of distress, even hosting a birthday celebration for his father.
The family also claimed that Mr. A intended to kill other family members, including his daughter-in-law and grandchildren, in addition to his son.
They detailed that "the perpetrator told everyone he was going to a convenience store after the birthday party and then came back upstairs with a bag containing a firearm, fired two shots at the victim, and also pulled the trigger twice towards the victim's friend, but the gun did not fire."

Furthermore, they added, "When the children were evacuated and the hiding daughter-in-law briefly came out to help the victim, the perpetrator was reloading the firearm while shouting at her and chased after her."
Police considering additional charges
The police are currently reviewing all possibilities and are considering adding charges of attempted murder or conspiracy to murder.
Earlier, Mr. A was accused of shooting and killing his son on the 20th around 9:31 PM in an apartment on the 33rd floor in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon.
During the investigation, 15 flammable materials, including a bottle of thinner, a detergent container, and a milk container, as well as an igniter, were found at Mr. A's residence in Dobong-gu, Seoul.
These devices are believed to have been set on a timer to ignite at noon the day after the murder, on the 21st.
