Man in his 30s sentenced to prison for scamming over 100 million won by falsely claiming his friend was injured
A man in his 30s has been sentenced to prison for scamming over 100 million won from his friend's mother under the pretense that his friend was injured.
The Chuncheon District Court's Criminal Division 2, presided over by Judge Kim Tae-seong, sentenced Mr. A (36) to two years in prison for fraud and attempted fraud.

From August 2021, Mr. A made phone calls to C, the mother of his friend B, claiming, "B is injured and needs medical expenses," and initially received 2 million won. He is accused of scamming a total of about 115 million won over 33 transactions through March 2022.
Mr. A resorted to various lies, saying, "B had a traffic accident and needs a settlement amount," and "B cannot pay back his loan, and creditors have come looking for him." However, his criminal activities did not stop there.

In April 2022, he again demanded a large sum, claiming that "B had stolen 53 million won from his bag," but C, finding his request suspicious, refused, leading to the discovery of the crime.
Judge Kim stated, "Considering that the amount defrauded is significant and that recovery of the victim's losses has not yet been achieved, I determined the sentence."
