Actor Sung Joon returns with extreme force.
On the 29th, SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama 'The Fiery Priest 2' (written by Park Jae-bum, directed by Park Bo-ram) unveiled Sung Joon's first appearance. He has transformed into Kim Hong-sik, the vice leader of a drug cartel from Laos.
'The Fiery Priest 2' is a joint investigation series. The protagonist is Kim Hae-il (played by Kim Nam-gil), an angry priest with anger management issues who acts as a boss for the 'Angel Gang' by day and takes on the role of Bellator by night. The story unfolds as he heads to Busan and clashes with the country's top drug cartel.
Sung Joon newly joins the cast in Season 2. The stills show his first scene, where he perfectly embodies the role of Kim Hong-sik, the evilest of the evil. Having been sold to Laos as a child, he returns to his homeland, Korea.
Kim Hong-sik exudes presence with a tanned face, a striking wolf cut, and a flashy patterned shirt with tattoos, turning a marketplace into a noir scene. His sharp gaze heightens the tension.
Sung Joon expressed his gratitude for joining Season 2, saying, "I was a viewer who enjoyed watching Season 1, and I am happy to participate in the project as a cast member. I'm doing my best not to be a burden, so please give us a lot of love."
He hinted at a transformation of epic proportions. Sung Joon explained, "Kim Hong-sik is the villain of all villains, a ruthless character who is not afraid of the law. He is a character different from any I have played before, possessing unpredictable charm."
He also shared his feelings with viewers, saying, "I am both excited and worried about how you will perceive it. Everyone is working hard to create better scenes. Please show as much interest in Season 2 as you did in Season 1."
The production team added, "Sung Joon is a grateful actor who always shows incredible focus. He exudes charisma as soon as the camera rolls. Look forward to Kim Hong-sik, who will make the drama even more thrilling."
'The Fiery Priest 2' marks a comeback after five years. Season 2 is expected to create a unique synergy with the introduction of new characters and chemistry. It will premiere at 10 p.m. on the 8th of next month.
