Legendary band The Beatles’ life is being made into a movie.
Sony Pictures announced details about the movie 'The Beatles', including the starring actors and release schedule, at 'CinemaCon 2025' held in Las Vegas, USA on April 1 (local time).
The film will be produced in a total of four parts, with each installment focusing on the life of one band member. It will showcase the story of The Beatles from different perspectives.
Director Sam Mendes is at the helm. He won an Oscar for the film 'American Beauty' in 1999 and has presented films such as '007 Skyfall' (2012) and '1917' (2020).
Paul Mescal will play the role of Paul McCartney. He gained recognition for his acting in the film 'Aftersun' (2022). Harrison Dickerson will portray John Lennon, having appeared in 'Kingsman: The First Agent' (2021).
Barry Keoghan will take on the role of Ringo Starr, having made a name for himself in the film 'Dunkirk' (2017). Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison and garnered attention for his role in Netflix’s 'Stranger Things'.
All four lead actors are from the UK or Ireland, including accents that match those of The Beatles. Great care has been taken in casting, as the film aims to depict the entirety of The Beatles’ lives.
The film is set to premiere all four parts in April 2028. The goal is to produce all four within a year. Director Sam Mendes stated, "I want to offer a unique experience of binge-watching in cinema, like a drama."
He expressed a desire to convey the journey of boys from Liverpool becoming global stars, stating, "After watching the film, viewers will have a deeper understanding of The Beatles members."
The production was confirmed on February 21 last year, after which he made thorough preparations. First, he obtained usage rights for all of The Beatles' music from their copyright company, Apple Corps.
He also obtained permission from the families to use the life stories of the members, marking the first time such rights have been granted by the families. The film will present the childhood stories and family backgrounds of the members for the first time.
Meanwhile, The Beatles are a British rock band that debuted in 1962 and had a massive impact on global popular music until their disbandment in 1970. They hold the record for the most No. 1 albums on the 'Billboard 200' chart, with 19 albums.
