Gwangju Gold and Silver Shop Jewelry Theft Incident
Two teenagers were arrested by the police for stealing expensive jewelry from a gold and silver shop in Gwangju.
They stole a gold necklace and a gold bracelet, with the value of the stolen items confirmed to exceed 30 million won based on current market prices.
According to a report by YTN on the 28th, the incident occurred during a demonstration where the shop owner was showing a customer a gold necklace.
Taking advantage of the owner's brief absence to retrieve a mirror, one suspect fled wearing the jewelry, while the other became flustered and was caught by the owner.
The victimized shop owner explained the situation, saying, "At first, I thought it was a joke. Initially, when they fled, I thought it was just a couple of friends playing around and they would come back. I was also flustered."
Planned Crime with ID Presentation
Notably, in this incident, the teenagers presented a driver's license to disguise their age prior to the crime.
The shop owner stated, "I checked the ID, and since it was a driver's license, I just thought they were barely over 20 years old." This revealed that the owner was shown the driver's license to mislead them about their identity, despite their youthful appearance.
The police quickly began tracking down the suspects after receiving the report and managed to apprehend all the fleeing suspects. Fortunately, the stolen gold necklace and bracelet, weighing 30 don, were also recovered.
The involved teenagers reportedly stated during police questioning that they stole the jewelry to cover their living expenses.
A police official commented, “According to them, they only got to know each other a week ago, but we believe they were colluding.”
The police are investigating the matter, suspecting that they conspired in advance and are looking into the specific division of roles.
Currently, the two teenagers have been sent home and are under investigation for special theft. The police plan to summon them again for further questioning soon.
