Teenager severely injured in a go-kart accident in Jeju dies a month later
A 17-year-old male student, who was undergoing treatment in a hospital after suffering serious injuries in a go-kart fire accident during a family trip to Jeju, has tragically passed away one month after the incident.
On the 23rd, the Seogwipo Police Station in Jeju announced that A, who had been receiving treatment at a general hospital in Gyeonggi-do, died the previous day. As a result, the charges against the go-kart company have been changed from professional negligence causing injury to professional negligence causing death, and an investigation will be conducted.

Earlier, at around 3:43 PM on the 29th of last month, A was driving a leisure go-kart at a go-kart venue in Seogwipo’s Pyoseon-myeon when the vehicle overturned after hitting an anti-roll tire while navigating a curve, leading to a fire.
A staff member at the go-kart venue immediately extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher, but A suffered third-degree burns over his entire body.
A was given emergency treatment and transported to a local hospital by a doctor helicopter, and was then transferred to a hospital in Seoul by a firefighting helicopter, where he received treatment for 25 days.
It is presumed that, during the accident, fuel leaked from the fuel tank when the go-kart overturned, exacerbating the fire damage.

Since the accident on the 29th of last month, the police have sent the go-kart involved in the accident to the National Forensic Service (NFS) for a thorough investigation to analyze the cause of the fire and any defects in the go-kart itself.
Additionally, the police have been focusing on investigating whether the go-kart company complied with safety measures.
The results of the NFS analysis are expected to be released within this month.

The police plan to thoroughly investigate the go-kart company’s negligence based on the accurate findings from the NFS to clarify responsibility.
In response to the tragic news of A’s death due to an unforeseen accident during a family trip, expressions of sorrow and tributes continue to emerge.
