Former 'T-ara' member Lee Ah-reum (Ah-reum) has received a suspended prison sentence. On the 16th, the Ansan Branch of the Suwon District Court, Criminal Division 9, presided by Judge Yoon Sang-do, sentenced Lee Ah-reum to eight months in prison, suspended for two years. She was also ordered to attend 40 hours of child abuse prevention lectures.
Lee Ah-reum was indicted without detention on charges of abduction of a minor and violation of the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation). She was subsequently brought to trial.
She was accused of verbally abusing her ex-husband in front of their minor children during their marriage, allegedly causing emotional abuse by having the children witness this behavior.
The court stated, "She admits to all charges of child abuse," adding, "Causing emotional harm to the custodian of the children is condemnable."
There was also a charge of defaming individual A in cyberspace. Individual A is someone who disclosed boyfriend B's court ruling documents. The accusation involved mentioning and defaming A during an internet broadcast.
Lee Ah-reum's side claimed there was no intent to defame. However, the court did not accept this argument, noting, "She made unreasonable comments about 'the ruling document being fabricated' without any effort to verify the facts."
On this day, there was also a verdict regarding Lee Ah-reum's mother, who was accused of neglecting her grandchildren while her daughter insulted her ex-son-in-law. She received a sentence of four months in prison, suspended for one year.
Meanwhile, Lee Ah-reum married her ex-husband in 2019 and had two sons. She filed for divorce in 2023 and announced her remarriage during the process. She is currently pregnant with her fourth child.
