National Weekend Rain Forecast, Caution for Heavy Rain in Southern Regions

Rain is expected to continue nationwide until the afternoon of Saturday, the 14th, with particularly high daytime temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius, especially in the metropolitan area, resulting in humid and hot weather.

As of 5 PM on the 13th, rain has already begun in most areas south of Gyeonggi Province.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 13th, rain is expected to expand to the entire metropolitan area and southern Gangwon Province by night, and from early morning on the 14th, the rain areas will widen across the nation.

In particular, strong winds carrying moisture flowing in from the south are expected to bring concentrated heavy rain of 30 to 50 mm per hour starting from the night in Jeju, and late at night in the southern coast and near Jirisan, accompanied by gusts, thunder, and lightning.

As a result, heavy rain advisories have been issued for most areas in Jeju and the southern coast.

Regional Rainfall and Temperature Forecast

In addition to the southern coast, rain is expected to fall at a rate of 10 to 30 mm per hour in the southern regions and Chungcheong area from late at night.

Heavy rain is expected to last until the morning, necessitating thorough preparations against possible rain damage overnight.

The expected rainfall is as follows: Jeju 50 to 120 mm (with a maximum of over 250 mm in mountainous areas, and over 180 mm in non-mountainous areas); Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do 30 to 80 mm (with over 150 mm in Busan and southern Gyeongsangnam-do, over 120 mm in southern Jeollanam-do, and over 100 mm near Jirisan); Jeollabuk-do, Daegu, and Gyeongsangbuk-do 20 to 80 mm.

Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong, Central South Chungcheong, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo are expected to receive 10 to 60 mm; the metropolitan area, the five islands in the West Sea, southern Gangwon, and northern South Chungcheong are expected to receive 5 to 40 mm; and the central and northern parts of Gangwon are expected to receive 5 to 20 mm of rain.

In the central and southern regions, rain is expected to pause briefly in the afternoon, then resume from the afternoon of the 15th (in Yeongnam, it will start again at night on the 15th).

In Jeju, rain is expected to continue until the night of the 14th before stopping, followed by renewed rain from the morning of the 15th.

Caution for Strong Winds and Marine Weather

Strong winds are also expected along with the rain, requiring preparedness for this as well.

Since the night of the 13th, strong winds exceeding 70 km/h (90 km/h in mountainous areas of Jeju) are expected to blow in Jeju, and from early morning on the 14th, similar wind speeds are expected along the southern coast.

From the afternoon of the 15th, strong winds of around 55 km/h are expected, primarily in the central region and the western coast of Jeolla.

Weekend temperatures are expected to remain around or slightly above the seasonal average.

The morning low temperatures are forecasted to be between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius, while the daytime high temperatures are expected to range from 23 to 30 degrees Celsius.

In major cities, temperatures are expected to be 21 degrees and 30 degrees in Seoul; 21 degrees and 28 degrees in Incheon and Daejeon; 22 degrees and 27 degrees in Gwangju; 20 degrees and 28 degrees in Daegu; 20 degrees and 26 degrees in Ulsan; and 21 degrees and 25 degrees in Busan.

On the 15th, morning low temperatures are projected to be between 18 and 23 degrees, with daytime highs ranging from 24 to 32 degrees.

At sea, fog is prevalent, with strong winds of 30 to 60 km/h and waves of 1.5 to 4.0 meters expected in the southern waters off Jeju starting from the night of the 13th.

From early morning, the waters inside the southern areas off Jeju and the eastern southern waters of the South Sea will experience rough waves; from the morning, the waters off Jeju (excluding northern waters) and the southeastern waters of the South Sea, inner eastern waters of the South Sea, and southern waters off eastern Korea will see increasing wave intensity from the afternoon.
