Netflix's 'Squid Game Season 2' (directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk) is enjoying global success. It has maintained the top spot for two consecutive weeks. According to Netflix's latest Top 10 rankings (for the period of December 30th to 5th), 'Squid Game Season 2' (henceforth 'Squid Game 2') has reached the number one spot in combined series (English and non-English).
During this period, the viewing hours amounted to 417.1 million hours. This marks a decrease of about 7,000 hours compared to the previous week, but it remains an overwhelming performance compared to other works during the same period. The number of views (calculated by dividing viewing hours by the total running time of the work) nearly doubled (68 million views) from the previous week. It recorded 126.2 million views just 11 days after its release.
With this achievement, 'Squid Game 2' has entered the ranks of second place in all-time Netflix series (non-English). It remains to be seen whether it will catch up with the record of the overall number one, 'Squid Game Season 1'.
The resurgence of the previous season is also notable. 'Squid Game Season 1' ranked second in the global Top 10 TV shows in the non-English category. It sparked a rewatching trend and dominated public attention.
Meanwhile, 'Squid Game 2' depicts the intense confrontation between Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) and the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun) as they re-enter the game. Season 3 is scheduled to be released this year.
