The Netflix series ‘Squid Game Season 2’ (directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, hereafter ‘Squid Game 2’) has surpassed the records of its predecessor. According to the latest Netflix Top 10 data (from the 23rd to the 29th), ‘Squid Game 2’ recorded 487.6 million viewing hours since its release on December 26.

It entered the global Top 10 (non-English) TV show category at No. 1. The number of views (the viewing hours divided by the total runtime) reached 68 million, making it the overall No. 1.

This significantly exceeded the first week’s record of the all-time hit ‘Squid Game,’ which had 50.1 million views and topped the global Top 10 (non-English) chart at the time. It ranked No. 1 in 92 out of 93 countries, including South Korea, the United States, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, France, Spain, and Australia.

It also became the 7th highest-ranked non-English TV show of all time based on its first week’s performance. The undisputed No. 1 is ‘Squid Game.’ The release of Season 2 contributed to an increase in viewership. Even related games are highly popular.

The multiplayer video game ‘Squid Game: Unleashed’ ranked No. 1 in the action game category in app stores of 57 countries. Meanwhile, ‘Squid Game 2’ is a sequel to ‘Squid Game.’ It depicts the intense showdown between Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) and the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun) who have re-entered the game.
