Netflix's 'Squid Game Season 2' (written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk) has not been nominated for an Emmy.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced the nominees for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on the 16th (Korean time). 'Squid Game Season 2' was not nominated.

Initially, it was expected to be a contender for major categories such as Outstanding Drama Series. This expectation is understandable, as the series had been a global top 10 series, reaching number one in 93 countries.

International media also expressed surprise at the outcome. U.S. outlets like Variety, The New York Times, and The Hollywood Reporter reported on the lack of nomination for 'Squid Game Season 2' with significant coverage.

Bella Bajaria, Netflix's Head of Global TV, told Variety, "'Squid Game' is a series that sparked cultural resonance. It’s really disappointing that it did not receive recognition."

However, it is not entirely impossible for the 'Squid Game' series to win additional Emmys. Season 3 will be eligible for next year's awards, with talk of nominations for Best Director and others under cautious consideration.

'Squid Game' swept the 74th Emmy Awards in 2022, winning six categories, including Outstanding Directing for a Non-English Language Program (Hwang Dong-hyuk) and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung-jae).

The show with the most nominations this year is Apple TV+'s 'Severance,' which received nominations in 27 categories, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress.

Meanwhile, the Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on September 15 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and can be watched live on CBS.
