Detection of Food Poisoning Bacteria in Sweet Potato Cake Leads to Sales Suspension and Recall Measures

Food poisoning bacteria were found in sweet potato cakes manufactured by 'Hansalim Our Wheat Confectionery' located in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, prompting the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to implement sales suspension and recall measures.

According to the announcement made by the Ministry on the 20th, the recalled product is the 'Sweet Potato Cake No. 1', distributed by the 'Hansalim Business Federation', with a manufacturing date labeled as June 12, 2025.

The product tested positive for Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning.

Staphylococcus aureus is known to produce toxins in foods, leading to gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. It is one of the major targets of food safety inspections, and immediate action is required especially if found in dairy products or baked goods.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety stated, "Anseong City Hall has taken swift action to recall the affected product," and urged consumers to be cautious.

Consumers who have already purchased the product were advised to "immediately stop consumption and return it to the place of purchase.”
