Songdo ‘Gunman Son’s Murderer’ Identity Disclosure Decision… “Considering the Victim’s Family Perspective”

Incheon Songdo Apartment Homemade Gun Murder Case, Police Decides Not to Disclose Suspect's Identity

On the 28th, the Incheon Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division decided not to disclose the identity of a 62-year-old father, referred to as A, who is suspected of murdering his son with a homemade gun at an apartment in Incheon Songdo International City.

This decision was made based on the Serious Crimes Disclosure Act, with particular consideration given to concerns about secondary victimization of the victim's family.

According to Article 4 of the Serious Crimes Disclosure Act, the police can decide whether to disclose the suspect's identity by deliberating on factors such as: △ Brutality and severity of the harm △ Sufficient evidence △ Public interest related to preventing re-offending and crime prevention.

In this case, the potential for secondary victimization of the victim B's (33, deceased) family and young children was significantly considered.

Additional briefing on the incident's background and motives is scheduled.

The police are set to hold a third briefing at 2 PM on the 29th at the Incheon Police Department's press room. During this briefing, detailed explanations regarding controversies related to the initial response and A's motives are anticipated.

A is suspected of murdering his son B using a homemade gun at an apartment in Incheon Songdo on the afternoon of the 20th.

Additionally, he is accused of attempting to explode 15 flammable materials, including a bottle of gasoline, detergent, and milk containers, all installed with ignition devices in his apartment located in Sangmyeon-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul.

In an interview with a profiler, A stated that he had been unemployed for 3 to 4 years, claiming, "I was listed as an employee in the family business and received about 3 million won a month in salary, but payment stopped last year."

It has been confirmed that the 70-pyeong apartment he resided in belongs to his ex-wife C, who is the CEO of a well-known skincare franchise.
