The movie 'The Black Nuns' (directed by Kwon Hyuk-jae) has hinted at another horror. On the 26th, the production team released a making-of video that showcases the detailed production process from the actors' efforts to immerse themselves in their characters to the completion of the work.
Oh Hyo-jin, executive producer of Film Company Zip, said, "We started the story with the question: 'What should we do with the 12 forms appearing again in Korea without 'Choi Jun-ho' and 'Kim Bum-shin' who have experienced exorcism?'"
Two nuns, not allowed to perform exorcism, engage in a forbidden ritual. Lee Jin-wook mentioned, "There are many exorcism films, but it's the first time I've seen one where nuns are the main figures performing the ritual."
Song Hye-kyo leads the story as Sister 'Yunia'. She explained, "She acts impulsively and speaks bluntly, and those traits will feel fresh in a cinematic sense."
They spared no effort to inject realism into the film. Music director Kim Tae-sung confessed, "We deliberated a lot on how to amplify the strange moments of our daily lives."
By intricately depicting the cracks within daily life, the film conveys familiarity and alienation simultaneously. Art director Cho Hwa-sung added, "We tried to make it look like an uncomfortable space by breaking down familiarity."
'The Black Nuns' is the second story of 'The Priests'. It is about people partaking in a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful demon. It will be released in theaters on the 24th of next month.
