Actress Song Hye-kyo's exorcism captivated the audience. The film 'Black Nuns' (directed by Kwon Hyuk-jae) was released on the 24th. According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system, pre-sales surpassed 200,000 by 7 a.m. on the same day.
It reached the top spot in overall pre-sale rankings. As of 9 a.m., 'Black Nuns' recorded a real-time reservation rate of 40.8%. Just on its opening day, 202,055 people booked their tickets.
The film garnered much anticipation due to its unique subject matter and the cast of trusted actors. Its box office potential looks promising. It has maintained the number one position in pre-sale rankings for nine consecutive days prior to release.
'Black Nuns' is the second installment following 'The Priests' (2015). It explores people who undertake a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by evil spirits.
Song Hye-kyo plays Sister Yunia. She appears very cold on the surface but is a character with a deep, earnest desire to save the boy.
Jeon Yeo-been completes the "womance" chemistry, playing Sister Michaela. Although she feels rebellious towards Yunia, she is drawn to her.
Lee Jin-wook appears as Father Paolo. He believes that medical treatment, not exorcism, is the only way to save the boy. Moon Woo-jin plays the boy, Hee-jun, who is in danger.
