Actress Song Hye-kyo and Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University have once again joined forces. They continued their meaningful good deed to commemorate the 79th Liberation Day.
On the 15th, Professor Seo Kyung-duk announced, "In celebration of Liberation Day, Song Hye-kyo and I have donated 10,000 guidebooks to the 'Lee Tae-Joon Memorial Hall' located in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia."
Lee Tae-Joon was a figure who committed himself to the independence movement. In 1914, he moved to Ulaanbaatar to transport funds to the provisional government in Shanghai and participated in the activities of the Righteous Army.
The guidebooks were produced in Korean and Mongolian. They are currently available at the temporary Lee Tae-Joon Memorial Hall and will also be placed in the newly opening Lee Tae-Joon Memorial Hall in the future.
Professor Seo stated, "The main content of the guidebook details Lee Tae-Joon's anti-Japanese independence movement, his activities in Mongolia, the Lee Tae-Joon Memorial Park, his tomb site, and his life."
He explained, "With the increasing number of Korean tourists visiting Mongolia these days, we judged that it was the perfect time to promote the independence activist Lee Tae-Joon, which led to the donation of the guidebooks."
The project was planned by Professor Seo and sponsored by Song Hye-kyo. For the past 13 years, the two have been promoting the sites related to the Korean independence movement. To date, they have made donations to a remarkable 37 locations.
Recently, they have also produced multi-language videos introducing the lives of lesser-known female independence activists such as Jeong Jeong-hwa and Yoon Hee-soon, spreading their stories both domestically and internationally.
Professor Seo urged, "The continuous interest and visits from the public are the greatest power to preserve the independence movement sites located overseas."
