Actress Song Hye-kyo meaningfully commemorates the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation.
Professor Seo Kyung-duk from Sungshin Women's University stated on social media on the 15th, "In celebration of the 80th anniversary of independence, I collaborated with Song Hye-kyo. We donated 10,000 copies of a guidebook on the independence movement for Koreans in Mexico."
The guidebook introduces the Korean National Association's local headquarters in Mexico City, the residences of independence activists Kim Ik-joo and Hwang Bo-young, Dolores Cemetery, and Ahn Chang-ho's lodging in Guadalajara.
Professor Seo noted, "The preservation conditions of Korea's independence movement heritage sites abroad are not good," adding, "The continued interest and visits of our citizens will be the greatest force in preserving historical heritage sites."
If visiting in person is difficult, website downloads are also available. "You can download the files from 'Our Historical Stories Encountered Abroad,'" he explained.
For the past 14 years, Professor Seo and Song Hye-kyo have been raising awareness about independence movement heritage sites. To date, they have donated Korean-language guidebooks, hangul signs, and materials about independence activists to 39 locations.
To continue celebrating the 80th anniversary of liberation this year, they will keep collaborating. As the first step, 10,000 guidebooks were donated to Saipan and Tinian Island last June. They plan to unveil a third project in November.
