“‘Skinny’ white dog guarding the fish farm on the sea ahead of the typhoon (video)”

A Jindo dog found tied up in the middle of a fish farm for two months… depending on a small dog house

A Jindo dog was discovered isolated and tied up in a fish farm above the sea in Jeju, prompting animal protection organizations to come to its rescue. The dog was reported to have been left abandoned on a maritime structure for about two months, cut off from any physical connection.

On the 8th, the animal protection organization 'Care' announced that they began preparations to rescue the dog in collaboration with the Jeju regional stray animal protection center 'Happiness Shelter.' According to Care, the Jindo was tied up in a cage-like maritime facility at a fish farm in Jeju and had been living isolated from the outside world, relying on a small dog house placed on the water.

Notably, while other dogs guarding the fish farm had access to pathways to come and go on land, the affected dog was left alone on the sea, without any structural connection.

"Thin and barely movin… a threat to life when a typhoon comes"

The representatives from Happiness Shelter visited the site by boat after receiving a tip-off. The head of Happiness Shelter reported, "The dog was in an extremely thin state and could hardly move."

He continued, "How could a person do this? My heart sank when I saw the dog's condition. It's almost typhoon season, and if left as is, the dog could be swept away by waves and lose its life."

A video released by Happiness Shelter captured the maritime fish farm swaying with strong waves. In the footage, the Jindo was seen precariously balancing on a narrow floor, either walking or standing still for a long time while staring at the camera.

"Not a surveillance tool, but a life… potential violation of the Animal Protection Act"

Care and Happiness Shelter believe that the dog’s life could be endangered due to bad weather, such as typhoons, and plan to conduct the rescue operation on the 9th. A representative from Care remarked, "The dog is not just a surveillance tool, but a living being," criticizing the current lack of even basic environments for survival in the fish farm.

The representative further stated, "Even if the owner predicts and prepares for dangerous situations, it is difficult to recognize that place as a location where animals can be kept. This is not just a matter of management but a clear case of animal cruelty."

Care pointed out that this incident falls under the provisions of Article 10, Paragraph 2, Item 4, which prohibits acts that cause suffering to animals, and Item 2 of Paragraph 4, which prohibits failing to provide minimal breeding space.

"Similar to exile"… outraged citizens

As this story became known, citizens expressed their anger. Reactions included, "That’s not surveillance; it’s abandonment," "Can you say you’re protecting a living being when you toss it into the sea?" "Tying it up in a swaying cage for two months is worse than abuse," "Should we watch a massacre with our eyes wide open?" "It’s like saying die when a typhoon comes," "What protection is there when the dog hasn't had a sip of water or a proper meal?" "That’s confinement and torture. We must hold them accountable."

Animal protection organizations are calling for not only the safe rescue of the Jindo but also a thorough investigation by the authorities and punishment for those responsible.
