Subway Stations as 'Lifestyle Sports Hubs'

In the sweltering summer, it is natural to sweat just by walking around.

Not many people know that the city of Seoul is working hard to help residents overcome this summer heat. The city has established an exercise community space called 'Fit Station' at Ttukseom Station, along with providing shower facilities for added convenience.

Moreover, the city has opened these shower facilities for free until November. This service is part of a pilot project by the city of Seoul aimed at transforming subway stations into platforms connecting exercise with daily life.

Reservation System for Shower Facilities… Basic Amenities Provided

'Fit Station' is operated by the group training brand 'Good Habit PT Studio' and can accommodate up to 30 people for group personal training simultaneously.

The shower area consists of five booths for each gender, and it is equipped with changing rooms, towels, hairdryers, and other basic amenities.

Usage is only available through Naver reservations (Good Habit PT Seongsu Branch), and it must be booked in 30-minute increments. Operating hours are weekdays from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM, noon to 1 PM, and from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, while Saturday booking is available between 10 AM and noon. Groups such as running clubs can make reservations through separate arrangements.

Plans for Expansion of 'Run Base' and 'Fun Station'

Through the free opening of shower facilities, the city of Seoul plans to analyze citizen satisfaction and usage patterns, which will then be reflected in the operation of 'Run Base' specialized for runners and 'Fun Station,' both under development at Gwanghwamun Station, Hoehyun Station, and World Cup Stadium Station. The 'Run Base' is expected to include changing rooms, lockers, powder rooms, and vending machines for running gear.

Im Chang-su, the Director of Future Space Planning at the city of Seoul, stated, "This pilot operation, which naturally connects exercise with daily life, is an important attempt to transform subway stations into lifestyle sports hubs. In the future, we will continue to discover and expand various exercise-based spaces so that citizens can comfortably return to their daily lives after working out in familiar environments."
