'The Remarried Empress' tells the story of the empress of the Dongdae Empire, who is informed by the emperor of his intention to divorce her and demands permission to remarry the prince of the Western Kingdom. The conflict begins when a runaway slave enters the palace as the emperor's concubine.
The series is based on a web novel and webtoon. 'The Remarried Empress' has recorded approximately 2.6 billion global cumulative views (as of December last year). It has been translated into 10 languages and has become a global intellectual property.
Shin Min-a plays the role of Empress Nabi, who is praised for her sharp intellect and innate grace as the empress of the Dongdae Empire. Ju Ji-hoon portrays Nabi's husband and the emperor, Sobiesu, who symbolizes absolute power.
Lee Jong-suk takes on the role of Prince Heinrich of the Western Kingdom, a character shrouded in secrets. Lee Se-young portrays the runaway slave Rasta, who harbors ambitions for the empress's position.
PD Jo Soo-won will direct the series. He has previously presented dramas such as 'I Hear Your Voice,' 'Pinocchio,' and 'Still 17.' Writer Hyun Chung-yeol, known for 'The Uncanny Counter,' is in charge of the screenplay.
The production team stated, "We will faithfully implement the world of the original work," expressing their hopes to present a romance fantasy with a new standard for the genre in terms of mise-en-scène, scale, and narrative completeness.
