“Serving Cold Cucumber Soup and Washing Dishes”… Mrs. Kim Hye-kyung in an Apron Volunteering at the Flood Relief Site

Cooking, Serving, and Dishwashing… The Later-Recognized Volunteer Activities of First Lady Kim Hye-kyung

Kim Hye-kyung, the wife of President Lee Jae-myung, visited the disaster recovery site in Gyeonggi Province, which suffered significant damage from heavy rainfall, and engaged in volunteer activities, including serving lunch.

According to the Presidential Office on the 24th, Kim participated in volunteer activities by helping prepare and serve lunch for about 300 soldiers and volunteers who were providing assistance for disaster recovery in Baekdun-ri, Gapyeong County.

Kim personally served dishes such as cold cucumber soup and encouraged the soldiers and volunteers.

She reportedly wore an apron and helped move trays without any distinction of roles, contributing to the service.

After the meal, she wrapped up her volunteer activities by washing dishes with the volunteers while wearing rubber gloves.

On the same day, it is reported that Kim also participated in cleaning bowls and kitchen utensils covered in muddy water at homes severely affected by flooding.

This consistent approach by Kim, who has been actively engaged in volunteer activities centered around religious and welfare facilities during the presidential election campaign, is interpreted as part of her 'quiet support' role.

Meanwhile, on the 25th of last month, Kim had a closed-door meeting with the mothers of the May 18th democratization movement victims at the May Mothers’ House in Yangnim-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, saying, "I came to keep the promise to meet again after the election."
