Continued Tropical Night Phenomenon Nationwide, Record 'Extreme Tropical Night' Level in Gangneung

A tropical night phenomenon, where nighttime temperatures do not drop below 25 degrees Celsius, continues throughout the country.

In particular, Gangneung in Gangwon Province has recorded nighttime low temperatures above 30 degrees for two consecutive days, experiencing an 'extreme tropical night' level of heat.

According to data released by the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 3rd, the lowest temperature in Seoul from 6:01 PM the previous day to 7:00 AM on the day of the report was 26.8 degrees, showing a tropical night phenomenon for four consecutive days.

In the metropolitan area, temperatures above 25 degrees were also observed in most regions, with Suwon at 25.3 degrees, Dongducheon at 25.2 degrees, Incheon at 25.1 degrees, and Icheon at 25.0 degrees.

In Gangwon Province, Gangneung recorded a temperature of 30.4 degrees, exceeding 30 degrees for two consecutive nights, while Bukgangneung and Sokcho also recorded high temperatures of 27.7 degrees each.

In the East Sea region, the temperature was recorded at 26.1 degrees, and Wonju at 25.9 degrees, indicating that the entire Gangwon Province is experiencing a tropical night phenomenon.

In the Chungcheong region, Cheongju recorded a low temperature of 26.0 degrees, Daejeon 25.3 degrees, Chungju 25.2 degrees, and Hongseong 25.0 degrees.

In the Honam region, Jeonbuk's Namwon and Jeonju recorded 25.7 degrees, Gwangju 25.4 degrees, and Gwangyang in Jeollanam-do 25.0 degrees, continuing to experience tropical nights.

The Gyeongsang region recorded even higher temperatures, with Pohang and Uljin in Gyeongbuk at 28.1 degrees, Daegu at 27.1 degrees, Gumi at 26.6 degrees, Miryang at 26.5 degrees, and Yeongdeok at 26.0 degrees.

In Gyeongnam, Bucheon recorded 25.9 degrees, Ulsan 25.8 degrees, Sangju 25.8 degrees, and Yangsan 25.5 degrees, with tropical nights observed throughout the region.

Jeju also experienced tropical nights, with Seogwipo at 26.0 degrees and Jeju at 25.8 degrees.

From a meteorological perspective, a tropical night is defined as a day when the lowest temperature between 6:01 PM and 9:00 AM the following day is above 25 degrees.

Although there is no official definition, when the lowest temperature exceeds 30 degrees, it is referred to as 'extreme tropical night.'

The Korea Meteorological Administration emphasized the necessity for special attention to health care due to the ongoing heat wave, which does not differentiate between day and night.
