A Paradigm Shift in Educational Assessment Driven by AI
The Seoul City Education Office is embarking on a groundbreaking change by introducing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) grading system for students' descriptive and essay evaluations.
On the 4th, the Seoul City Education Office announced that it will officially start the development of the "AI Descriptive and Essay Evaluation Support System."

This system is an advanced educational assessment platform that automatically grades the written content submitted by students and provides personalized feedback.
The aim of this initiative is to construct a new educational paradigm that goes beyond simple multiple-choice questions, fostering students' ability to express their thoughts in writing while enabling fair and efficient evaluation.
Fair and Efficient Assessment
On the 1st, the Seoul City Education Office signed a contract with a private company that possesses AI automatic grading technology and announced its collaboration with Naver in the system development field.
Key Features and Development Roadmap of the AI Grading System
The upcoming AI Descriptive and Essay Evaluation Support System will incorporate various innovative features.
Grading will be aligned with the achievement standards of the 2022 Revised Curriculum, providing personalized feedback for each student. Additionally, there will be functions to accumulate and manage evaluation results.

To enhance the accuracy and reliability of AI grading, the Seoul City Education Office plans to collect real data, including standard questions, students' actual responses, and teachers' grading results and corrections, laying the groundwork for AI learning. This data-driven approach is crucial for enabling AI to learn and mimic the grading patterns of human teachers.
Starting this month, a group of experts, including university professors, will participate in developing assessment questions and grading criteria suitable for the 2022 Revised Curriculum.
From next year, the system will be further refined for pilot application, and after 2027, it plans to gradually expand its application to regular schools.
Seong Keun-sik, Superintendent of the Seoul City Education Office, stated, "School education must foster the ability to assess information with a critical and analytical perspective and solve problems with creative viewpoints, going beyond simply teaching knowledge and skills." He expressed optimism that the AI Descriptive and Essay Evaluation Support System will serve as a significant stepping stone in transforming the current evaluation reality into future-oriented student assessments.
