The official launch of 'Squid Game' Season 2 has been announced. On the 5th, Netflix's new series 'Squid Game' Season 2 (directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk) released its first character posters and a video featuring the director and actors introducing the characters.
'Squid Game' Season 2 portrays an intense battle between Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who returns with a vow for revenge and re-joins the game, and the Frontman (played by Lee Byung-hun), who confronts him.
The posters resemble profile pictures taken by participants right before entering the game. Number 456, Gi-hun, has a serious expression without any hint of a smile, contrasting with the new participants of the game.
The remaining eight participants had expressions full of anticipation and hope of making big money. Im Si-wan transformed into Myung-gi, a coin investment YouTuber number 333, showcasing a bright smile.
Kang Ha-neul, similarly, played Da-ho, number 388, who has a jovial personality. Lee Jin-wook portrayed Kyung-sung, number 246, who urgently needs medical expenses for his sick daughter.
Park Sung-hoon transformed into Hyun-joo, number 120, a transgender individual in need of money to complete gender confirmation surgery. Yang Dong-geun and Kang Ae-sim took on the roles of mother and son, Yong-sik number 007, and Geum-ja number 149, respectively, who joined the game to pay off gambling debts.
The new plot twist hinted at relationships outside the game connecting to those inside. This includes Lee Seo-hwan as Jeong-bae, number 390, a close friend of Gi-hun reuniting at the game site, and Jo Yoo-ri as Jun-hee, number 222, who was deceived by false investment information losing a fortune.
They smiled, not knowing what would unfold ahead. What challenges will they face in this unpredictable game? The character introduction video provides more insights.
Lee Jung-jae explained Gi-hun as having strong determination to change what he must, becoming a key driving force for transformation compared to Season 1.
Lee Byung-hun played the role of the Frontman, the game overseer standing against Gi-hun. He stated, "I considered the Frontman's main goal to be destroying Gi-hun's convictions and approached the role accordingly."
Wi Ha-jun returned to play Jun-ho, who survived Season 1, struggling to find his brother In-ho, the Frontman. He shared, "I thought I idolized and liked my brother too much, which led to this obsession."
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk mentioned, "Dramatic stories could unfold due to the characters' backgrounds, making for much more entertaining viewing."
Additionally, a diverse cast adds more variables: forlorn shaman Seon-nyeo (played by Chae Gook-hee), rapper Thanos (played by Choi Seung-hyun), timid and fearful Min-soo (played by Lee David), Nam-kyu who follows Thanos (played by No Jae-won), and Semi, who cares for Min-soo (played by Won Ji-an).
'Squid Game 2' will be available on Netflix from the 26th.
