The noir film featuring actor So Ji-sub has resonated with global audiences.
Netflix's "The Square" (written by Yoo Gi-sung, directed by Choi Sung-eun) was released on the 6th. According to Netflix's 'Top 10', the series ranked 2nd in the global Top 10 Non-English series category.
The data collection period for this survey was from the 2nd to the 8th. "The Square" recorded 4.9 million viewership hours (the number of viewers divided by the runtime), reflecting effectively only the viewership for three days.
It made it to the Top 10 in a total of 44 countries/regions, including Greece, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Kenya, the Bahamas, Chile, Honduras, Indonesia, Qatar, and Pakistan.
Among these, it topped the charts in three countries: South Korea, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. So Ji-sub's hardboiled action, intense storytelling, and striking mise-en-scène are cited as factors contributing to its popularity.
Meanwhile, "The Square" is an action-thriller genre. The story follows Ki-soo (played by So Ji-sub), who returns to his old organization for revenge after the death of his brother, having previously left the violent group.
